She told host Jimmy Kimmel this week that she and the band haven’t started rehearsing yet, and that she has to relearn “eight or nine” No Doubt songs ahead of the big show. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Regional Mexican music — a catchall term that encompasses mariachi, banda, corridos, norteño, sierreño and other genres — has become a global phenomenon, topping music charts and reaching new audiences as it crosses borders. Overall, regional Mexican music grew 60% in the U.S., accounting for a whopping 21.9 billion on-demand audio streams. On Spotify, Mexican music grew 400% worldwide over the last five years, according to Uriel Waizel, lead editor at Spotify Mexico. And I think that is exciting.”Waizel says that while Mexican music is centuries old, “current Mexican music is breaking because it is the music that young people listen to." CNN —The lineup for Southern California’s legendary, desert-centric Coachella music festival has officially been announced, and there’s no doubt it’ll be a good time. On Tuesday, Goldenvoice, the company that produces the long-running festival, revealed that the 2024 lineup features popular ska/punk/rock band No Doubt as one of the four headlining acts. In the early aughts, the band went on to pursue solo projects after releasing a number of albums together. Last year’s Coachella headliners included Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, Korean pop group Blackpink and singer Frank Ocean. TikTok's owner is shuttering its music app Resso in India in response to government orders. The move comes as TikTok is rolling out a separate music app in five countries. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Growing up on the border between Mexico and the United States, Becky G spoke English, but sang corridos, boleros and mariachi in Spanish. All her life, she dreamed of an album that would honor her family’s roots and delve into those genres that she enjoys so much. Since childhood, she had talked with her grandparents about a project "totally inspired by regional Mexican music.” She decided it was finally time to focus on that project after the death of her grandfather Miguel, to whom she dedicated the track. “This project has a lot of content that is very personal,” she said of the visuals accompanying the album. CNN —Authorities in the Mexican city of Chihuahua have moved to ban performances of songs that “promote violence against women,” citing high levels of domestic violence. The law bans the performance of songs that promote violence against women, as well as their discrimination, marginalization or exclusion, said Bonilla. Narcocorridos and corridos tumbados, types of homegrown Mexican music linked to violence and the drug trade, could also be affected. In 2012, the city banned popular Mexican group Los Tigres del Norte after the band played three songs categorized as narcocorridos. Chihuahua city is the capital of Chihuahua state in northern Mexico.
